Why do we go? The desire for doing service type work in my walk with the Lord probably evolved from my childhood. My Mom was always helping and assisting others, many times without recognition. Upon graduation from nursing school I did have thoughts of Peace Corp like activities, however, marriage, career, and raising a family postponed the fulfillment of those service-oriented goals. My marriage to Al Gres was the catalyst to achieving those mission goals. Our first mission trip to Africa was our honeymoon. Since that time we have made two or three short term mission trips yearly. The preparation for this travel takes about 6 months and it is amazing the new friends you meet who wish to send a part of themselves with you. The idea is to travel light so that the bulk of the luggage is medical supplies. My husband and I find that this additional dimension of our mission commitment makes our marriage more solid and rewarding. -- Jeanne Hardin-Gres, RN
